1. A book that a certain friend is always telling you to read
This one is very obvious – Amy has been telling me to read A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara ever since she read it and fell completely in love with it. Amy actually leant it to me a few weeks ago so now I have no excuse but to settle down and sink my teeth into it!
2. A book that’s been on your TBR forever and yet you still haven’t picked it up
Oh god, literally too many to choose from. I’m currently doing the #beatthebacklist challenge as I have no less than 82 unread books on my shelves… However, The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern has been on my list F O R E V E R, and one I’ve heard a lot about! I don’t usually read magical realism/fantasy but it’s literally been sitting on my shelf for over 5 years so …
3. A book in a series you’ve started, but haven’t gotten round to finishing yet
For Booktubeathon last year, I read Uglies by Scott Westerfeld and loved it. However, I haven’t quite gotten round to picking up the next book in the series. I definitely think a library trip is in order.
4. A classic you’ve always liked the sound of, but never actually read
I don’t read many classics, but there’s a few I really love – such as 1984 by George Orwell. I really like reading dystopian (even if it has got slightly less popular lately!) One of the dystopian classics I haven’t read yet is Brave New World by Aldous Huxley – this is definitely one I want to read sooner rather than later.
5. A popular book that it seems everyone but you has read
Any book ever by Victoria Schwab… I had never heard of her, and then suddenly she was everywhere. In particular, I have seen SO MUCH about Vicious. It sounds really interesting – the premise is that two college students learn how to create superhuman abilities, and then become archenemies. (I mean, it sounds bloody great!)
6. A book that inspired a film/TV adaptation that you really love, but you just haven’t read it yet
I loved the Netflix original You. It’s a psychological thriller TV show about a bookstore manager called Joe who begins to stalk a woman who came into his bookstore. It’s so creepy, yet funny in places, and honestly such a great show that highlights and deconstructs the idea that bad people always ‘seem bad’. I didn’t know it was originally a novel until after watching it. I’ve heard mixed things about the book, but would like to give it a go and make my own mind up about it too, especially as I enjoyed the TV show so much!
7. A book you see all over Instagram but haven’t picked up yet
I’m pretty sure every other picture on Instagram lately has been about The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. I don’t know a lot about this book – only that it’s fantasy and everyone is loving it! At over 700 pages, it’s not short, but it may have to be one I eventually pick up!
